Great Dane - Extra Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Maverick (NJ-N)
Description
Maverick is an approximately 5 year old brindle male with natural ears. We are really not sure why he was given up as he has been absolutely a doll in his foster home. Maverick knows sit, shake and stay. It is unclear if he knows his name, or if he just comesbecause you are talking to him. Maverick is very obedient, walks very well, and does not pull. If we walk by a house with fenced in dogs, Maverick will ignore them. But if we walk by another dog being walked, then he wants to meet them and will pull and prance a bit to greet them. He is not aggressive, or territorial. He drools when he is nervous, or on long walks, but once inside, or safe, he is fine. He travels well and is very good in the car. Maverick has not shown any signs of food aggression, toy aggression, or aggression towards any of his things. He does not even growl aggressively towards new dogs, but does talk a bit because he is anxious to meet them. In his previous home, he was with a female Great Dane. He has also spent a weekend with 3 male labs, and did not have any issues with them. Maverick goes on a walk in the morning, once during lunch, and a long walk in the evening. Once home, he sleeps quite a bit. He sleeps through the night. He may roam around the house a little in the night, but goes back to sleep. He will follow you where you go, but as long as he can see you, he will lie down and be quiet. Maverick does not bother us when we eat dinner, nor does he seem concerned about what is being cooked. We can leave food on the counter and he ignores it, actually he could care less. He does like his treats, and these are given only after he sits for them. We have not kept him in a crate during the daytime, he is completely trustworthy when left alone in the house. He does whine and bark a few minutes when we leave in the morning, but quiets down very quickly. We were told that Maverick was 2-3 years old, we believe he is more like 5, and he has some hind end weakness and arthritis in his knees. His foster home is working on building his strength and taking some weight off of him. He is also on supplements to help his joints and arthritis. We have no history of Maverick with children, although he seems to be fine so far with the children he has met, we will not place him with children less than 8 years old. Cats are unknown. Maverick is a lovely boy who just wants to be with his people. He is trustworthy in the house, easy to take out, walks well on a leash, and listens well.
