Rottweiler - Medium - Adult - Female - Dog - Charlotte
Description
Please do NOT contact The Cat Shack about Charlotte. Contact her foster mom, Trinka, at catnut@yahoo.com. Are you an exceptional dog savvy woman looking for a VERY special companion and soul mate? If so, please consider Charlotte. Charlotte is a small rottweiler/pit mix, now about 5 years old. “Small but mighty” is the best way to describe her! She stands only 18” high at the shoulder but has a powerful, muscular build and weighs about 60 pounds. Charlotte is SUPER affectionate, loaded with energy and exuberance, and guaranteed to make you smile. She has a very high energy level and loves to race around outside as fast as her short, stubby legs will carry her, which is surprisingly fast! This seemingly boundless energy means that a securely fenced yard to romp in is mandatory. She loves to go outside in any kind of weather. Inside, Charlotte does an excellent job of entertaining herself with her favorite toy, a soft, squeaky rubber ball, and seldom barks, even when she knows she is being left alone. She is currently living in a horse barn so will need a refresher course on housebreaking, but is already crate trained and very comfortable with a crate. Charlotte is ALWAYS happy and full of enthusiasm but can also sit quietly and gaze lovingly into your eyes as you scratch her under her chin. A good belly rub mesmerizes her completely! Charlotte had a terribly rough start in life. She was picked up by Animal Control from a rough neighborhood in Philadelphia after they received a call that she was tied to a porch. She had two large, gaping wounds and a number of smaller superficial wounds and reeked of the smell of infected flesh. It is clear that she was attacked by another dog, and was not at all successful in protecting herself. It is our belief that she was being used as a bait dog. She was taken to the local shelter where despite her serious wounds, she hopped out of the animal control truck, wagged her tail and was willingly led into the shelter's clinic area. She proceeded to jump up and lick and smile at the vet tech examining her (yes, smile, she has a great smile!). She received her exam and shots without any protest and was taken to the kennel area where she behaved very well for her 48 hours there, despite her painful wounds. A rescue volunteer witnessed Charlotte's arrival at the shelter and immediately fell in love with her stunning looks and innocence towards the rough life she'd led thus far. The volunteer vowed to make things right for this dog. She felt that if any dog could remain as happy and trusting and loving as Charlotte did despite her history, she was worth saving and deserved knowing the love of a good home someday. We're hoping that day will be soon, for Charlotte's sake. She deserves it so much. Because we don't usually take dogs with her breeding and background, we're invested some extra time and energy into Charlotte. She has had 2 weeks of intensive professional in-kennel training. Her trainer believes her to be a wonderful and highly intelligent dog, and even stated that she would be a great agility dog. She loves to play with toys, especially balls that squeak, and she's quite athletic. She has also been seen by a behaviorist, who agrees that she is a wonderful dog. However, Charlotte does have an issue with men which is most certainly a result of the severe abuse from men she suffered as a young dog. She is wonderful when she meets people in public but can be defensive when dealing with men in her own home. Although she has never had a problem with her foster Dad and is crazy about him, she has grabbed hold of men on several different occasions in the two different adoptive homes she has had. Although none of these instances required treatment by a doctor, the potential for more serious injury was present. Charlotte has NEVER had any incident with a woman, so adoption to an all-female household would be ideal. Charlotte genuinely wants to please and the training she's been through has helped considerably. She is an intense dog who requires a loving but strong owner that she will recognize as her leader. Charlotte will not do well with cats or other small animals. She approaches other dogs with a wagging tail while on a leash, but she really needs to be the only dog in her own household. Charlotte responds well to children when meeting them in public but is too forceful to interact with children without attentive supervision. An adult-only home is required. If you are intrigued by Charlotte’s description and feel you are the kind of person Charlotte is searching for, please contact her Foster Mom, Trinka Arnold, for more information at catnut@yahoo.com. For the right kind of person, Charlotte is an absolute treasure waiting to be discovered.
