Oct 2009 update- we visited Danny and brought another $100 for the Lakshmi cow rescue, thanks to the donations from Danny's fans (primarily through his facebook cause page)- Danny looks fabulous and is clearly enjoying his new home. We never thought we would become involved in the rescue of a 1400lb steer!This super friendly Hereford/Simmental cross steer eats marshmallows from the hands of children and loves to be handled. Even the farmer that raised Danny wanted to see him rescued, but not to the extent that the farmer was willing to lose any money from selling Danny! After 6 weeks of effort by a Cat Shack Volunteer who encountered dead-end after dead-end, all was almost lost when the Farmer loaded Danny onto a truck for New Holland Auction to be sold and slaughtered! Danny received a last minute rescue when the 'kill' buyer was outbid by a volunteer using her personal credit card and at the same time, a temporary home was secured for Danny via craigslist.Right now Danny is being cared for in this temporary home until the end of June. This spot was secured after a kind person read about Danny's last minute rescue and urgent situation. Danny is receiving good food and lodging, but because he is a bit of an escape artist he is confined to a small pen with no other cows. Danny is a young and social steer that needs more space and bovine buddies to be really happy!We are thrilled to report that Danny has been accepted into a Cow Rescue in Bangor (www.cowprotection.com) where he will have access to over 22 acres and other cows! He will never risk being slaughtered again. He just needs sponsors to make this final trip to his sanctuary! So far his rescue has cost $1100 and this has all been funded by one of his Fans.
